Resources Mineral Resources
Resources & Opportunities in Mineral SectorMica The state stands 2nd in the Mica deposits and production in the country. The Nellore Mica schist belt is known as the 2nd biggest mica belt in the country extends over a strike length of about 90 KM and covering an area of about 1000 Sq.km is found around Gudur, Rapur and Atmakur Mandals of the Nellore district. At present bulk of the Mica production comes from Nellore and Visakhapatnam Districts. Barytes Huge reserves of Barytes are found in Cuddapah, Prakasam and Nellore districts. World's largest single deposit with an estimate reserve of 70 million tones Grey Barytes occurs in Mangampet, Cuddapah district. Mangampet Barytes with grade 92% BaSo4 and an average specific gravity of 4.21 is used in oil & gas well drilling. The other grades are catering the needs of Chemical and Paint industries. Beach Sands / Placer Deposits Potential Monazite beach placer deposits are found all along the coastal stretch right from Srikakulam district on north to Prakasam district in south and also along the Godavari, Krishna, Nagavalli, and Vamsadara river channels & confluence, which contains Illmenite, Monazite, Zircon, Rutile, Garnet and Sillimanite, out of which Zircon & Monazite are atomic minerals and classified. Illmenite & Rutile are Titanium bearing minerals. Bauxite Andhra Pradesh is 2nd richest in Bauxite deposits in the country, huge reserves of 750 million tons of metal grade Bauxite have been proved in forest and tribal tracts of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts by detail explorations. Limestone Andhra Pradesh contains 44% of limestone reserves of the country with estimated reserves around 30,400 million tones of different grades, produces 15 million tones and contributes 15% of the total production of the country. State is one of the largest producers of cement (18-20%) with 18 major and 29 mini cement plants. Dolomite Dolomite is found in Khammam, Kurnool, Ananthapur, Warangal and Cuddapah Districts. Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Southern Magnesium are exploiting metal and SMS grade Dolomite of Khammam and Warangal Districts. Manpower in ITES/BPO Industry
The Government has been keen to help the youth of the State to acquire skills and knowledge in this important fast growing sector thus, improving their employability. The Government has set up the Institute of Service Management (ISM) also for imparting short-term training programmes for graduates
Student knowledge Forum
The Student knowledge Forum Community is an ever growing group of developers and friends who enjoy working together and learning from each other's experiences. Prof.Ghanta Subba Rao, Ex-officio Secretary, e-Governance & State Chief Information Officer(SCIO), has the vision of forming the Student Knowledge Forums (SKF) through out the state with the trained faculty members and students. Government of Andhra Pradesh has pioneered e-Governance applications in the state. As part of the Human Resource Development that would be required for designing, developing, implementing and maintaining e-Governance projects, he has initiated suitable training programs to the relevant faculty members and students of Colleges conducting B.Tech /MCA /M.Sc (IS) / M.Sc (CS) course(s). Faculty members and best talented students out of each training programme would be used to train the personnel at the subsequent training programme and the chain of such events would continue in this summer of 2003 through SKF. Some of the Colleges have come in touch with the State Chief Information Officer and Volunteered to host the Training programmes for the Faculty members and to the students.
Jawahar Knowledge Center (JKC)
Vision and Objectives:
To locate the JKC at a reputed educational institute as a nodal point for creative activity, best practices - a laboratory for experimentation & innovation for betterment and a repository of agricultural, health, utilitarian and other information.
Activities include:
1.Providing a project environment to the best students in the district
2. Offering training to industry, government, and public
3. Popularizing e-governance initiatives by conducting tours & lecture demos
4.Dissemination of knowledge acquired through official and web sources and generation of data banks & Frequently Asked Question+Answers (FAQs) on all topics of concern for the district.
5.Providing video and teleconferencing facilities to students at first instance, and to all at a later time, to bring about an interaction between experts and novices, users and providers by conducting workshops, seminars and get-togethers etc.
6.Inventorize the assets of the district with, talent pool, research centers, climatic & agricultural data, wages, prices, and industrial data.

Power
Reforms have been taken up in the state for the viability and the growth of the power sector to meet the needs of the consumers and to promote the overall economy. APSEB formed in 1959 has been restructured into two functionally distinct corporations namely APGENCO and APTRANSCO. Distribution business was segregated from APTRANSCO by the formation of four other distribution companies with effect from 1st March, 2000.A.P. Power sector has secured 1st rank as per the CRISIL ratings consecutively in 2004-05 and 2005-06. Andhra Pradesh is the 3rd largest power utility in the country with installed capacity 11,134 MW. Highest Hydel Installed Capacity in India resulting in reduced cost of powerThe State's power supply network which consists of 25,719 Ckms of EHT lines, 207432 Ckms of HT lines, 437610 Ckms of transmission lines and 2645 substations is one of the largest networks in the country supplying power to nearly 1,69,25,194 consumers. It is programmed to add 4X400 KV, 5X220 KV, 20X132KV sub stations and 809 CKM of 220 KV lines and 395CKM of 132 KV lines. Another 279 number of 33/11 KV substations are being added. The power generation available for use is 25,482 million units and the Per Capita Consumption is 575 KWh. There are 4,36,551 distribution transformers and 2,874 sub stations in the State. Dedicated feeders are being provided to 213 HT LI schemes. 998 Special Industrial Express Feeders have been separated to ensure uninterrupted supply to industries.

Water
Andhra Pradesh is rightly called " A River State" as it is blessed with major rivers, the Godavari and the Krishna, Pennar, Vamsadhara. The other rivers comprising of the Nagavali, Sarda, Yeleru, Gundlakamma, Musi, Paleru, Munnneru and Kunleru are the Minor rivers. The State is having dependable flows estimated at 2,746 TMC. Andhra Pradesh envisions the provision of high quality services such as that of water supply and major water projects are already nearing completion. Apart from the river projects the State Government is also looking into the development and modernization of Canal Transport in Andhra Pradesh. 10% of water in the existing and upcoming water projects is reserved for industrial use as envisaged in the Industrial Policy of the State.
Roads
Roads are one of the basic modes of transportation system and also an important priority sector of infrastructure. Road transport is important for the movement of agricultural products both raw as well as finished material. Andhra Pradesh has 1,78,747 Kms Roads out of which the length of National Highways is 4,014 Kms and State Highways is 9,212 Kms. Golden quadrilateral Corridor Project of the country is covering about 1014 Kms in the State with the project cost of Rs 25.46 billion. The entire stretch of Howrah to Chennai passing through the State is being made 4 lane road.A huge volume of investment, private sector participation has been sought for a planned development and sustained maintenance of the road infrastructure on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) process. Hyderabad Outer Ring Road is one such project developed by HUDA. Expressway (Flyover) from Mehdipatnam Junction to Shamshabad International Airport is being undertaken by the developer GMR constructions. Number of Flyovers is being constructed across the Hyderabad city to ease the ever growing traffic.
